From the beginning of 1986 to September 1991, China Aeronautical Technology Corporation (CATIC), Chengdu Engine Corporation, U.S. Pratt & Whitney (P&W), and Turbine Power Marine Systems (TPM) worked together for five years to produce the first FT-8. The unit has been shipped to the site of Shenzhen Futian Power Station and is ready for trial operation. The performance of the FT-8 unit is compared with that of the Alaska pipeline Avon1533 unit and the Soviet Union ГТН-25 unit, which has outstanding advantages (see table).
