读了“戏剧报”上关于培养青年演员问题的文章(一九五七年第一期)后,引起了我许多的感想。首先,我想到了我自己在年轻时候学艺的一些情况:我原来是学小生的,但我到十七岁时,不幸突然倒了嗓,不可能再演小生了,为了生活又不能休息,只好演配角;但既来学戏,老演配角又不甘心,为了找出路,只好改习小丑。但是隔行如隔山,又要从头学起;我只有到处去求老师傅教戏,或者去偷学别人的戏。有一位蔡老师傅演了一出“花子骂相”,很受欢迎,词章好,表演细致,我就想学他这出戏,请他吃饭又送礼物,但是他始终不肯教我。没有办法,我就在他演出时偷着学。不错,也算学会了,可是拿到台上一演,别人就说:“哎呀,你这些戏都是狗咬缺了的!”听了这些话,我才明白了要想学好一出戏真是困难哪。当时的情况,不但学戏难,就是学好了也有困难,因为资本家的舞台不会让我们青
