Cliff Scott is a well-known British literary critic, a large number of works on the study of European literature. This article is from Modernism, edited by Malcolm Bradbury and James McFarlane (Penguin, UK, 1981). Scott in this article discusses the 19th. Symbolism, Decadence and Impressionism occurred and developed in the European literary world from the end of the 20th century to the beginning of 20th century. The essay is very elaborate on the arguments and substantiation, which is of great reference value to the researchers of modernist literature in our country. Due to the length of the original text, I choose its essence to compile into this article to readers.
