Endothelial lipase (EL) is a new member of triacylglycerol lipase gene family discovered in recent years, which is the key enzyme of HDL metabolism. EL plays an important role in the pathogenesis of coronary heart disease by degrading HDL. In recent years, basic research found that EL participates in the key process of the formation of atherosclerosis (AS), such as lipid metabolism, endothelial injury and inflammation reaction. Therefore, EL may be the hinge and medium of AS formation. Clinical studies also show that EL may be an important risk factor for coronary heart disease. However, the current research on the relationship between EL and coronary heart disease is mostly based on clinical research has just begun.
