Objective To investigate the value of susceptibility weighted imaging (SWI) in the diagnosis of brain tumors. Materials and Methods Data of 51 patients with brain tumors who underwent T1 fluid attenuation inversion recovery sequence (FLAIR), T2FLAIR, SWI and enhanced T1FLAIR were retrospectively analyzed before surgery and pathology were confirmed. The corrected phase value (CP) of the lesion and the normal control area was calculated, and the tumor vein and hemorrhage products displayed by the enhanced T1FLAIR were compared statistically. Results SWI was sensitive to hemorrhage and venules in the tumor. The CP values of lesions and normal control area were -0.288 ± 0.332 and 0.050 ± 0.155, respectively, with significant difference (t = -3.489, P <0.05). The SWI shows more clearly the details of the tumor structure than T1FLAIR. Conclusion SWI has a high clinical value for the display of tumor border, internal structure, hemorrhage and venous blood vessels and edema areas, and may be useful for accurate classification of tumors.
