季羡林先生是山东人,1911年8月6日出生在山东省清平县(今临清市)官庄,7岁时随叔父迁居济南。1930年考入清华大学西洋文学系。1935年考取清华大学与德国交换研究生,到德国格廷根大学专攻外国古代语文,主要是梵文、巴利文、吐火罗文。1941年通过论文考试后,从事印度中世纪语言与佛经的研究。1946年回国。任北京大学教授兼东方语言文学系主任。他是中国现代屈指可数的梵文专家。 留学期间,季羡林先生虽然学习和研究工作都非常繁重,但他没有中断散文写作。从1994年第3期起,本刊将在‘留学生文学’栏目中连续选登季先生留学时期写下的5篇散文,以飨读者。
Mr. Ji Xianlin is a native of Shandong. He was born in Guanzhuang, Qingping County (now Linqing City), Shandong Province, on August 6, 1911, and moved to Jinan with his uncle when he was 7 years old. In 1930 admitted to Tsinghua University Western Literature Department. In 1935, Tsinghua University and Germany exchange exam candidates, and went to Gottingen University in Germany specializing in foreign ancient languages, mainly Sanskrit, Pali, and Tocharian. After passing the essay exam in 1941, he engaged in the study of Indian medieval language and Buddhist scriptures. Back in 1946. Ren Peking University professor and director of Oriental language and literature. He is one of the few Sanskrit experts in modern China. During her study abroad, Ji Xianlin, while studying and researching very heavy, did not interrupt her essay writing. Starting from the third issue of 1994, we will continue to select the five essays written by Mr. Ji during his study abroad in the section entitled “Literature for Overseas Students” to readers.
