“语文是学习和工作的基础工具,语文科是学习各门学科的基础工具。”《教学大纲》明确地阐明了语文的性质,阐明了语文科与其他学科的区别。叶圣陶先生曾在《大力研究语文教学尽快改进语文教学》中就明确指出:“语文是工具,自然科学方面的天文、地理、生物、数理化,社会科学方面的文、史、哲、经,学习表达和交流都要使用这个工具。要做到个个学生善于使用这个工具(说多数学生善于使用这个工具还不够),语文教学才算对极大地提高整个中华民族的科学文化水平尽了分内的责任,才算对实现四个现代化尽了分内的责任。”叶老从语文工具性的角度出发,明确地阐述了语文教学的任务。如何提高整个中华民族的科学文化水平,语文科承担了义不容辞的责任。语文教师必须努力教会学生学好祖国的语言文字,学会正确地运用祖国的语言文字;学会阅读文章,准确地获得信息;学会写作;准确地表达自己的思想。且以此为工具进而学好、用好其他学科。
