According to Meta Group, an information technology consulting firm based in Stamford, Conn., the Ultra Enterprise server family product released by Sun Microsystems in April this year has taken the lead in the market competition. Meta Group believes that Sun’s Ultra Enterprise server will enable the RISC-based server market to form the three positions of Sun, Digital and HP. The reason is: In the high-end server series, RS/6000 is less competitive because it is limited to the PowerPC architecture and is limited to 8-way SMP scalability. It reminds users to postpone the deployment of high-end servers for 3 to 6 months to see the results of field test batches. Although the Scalable Powerparallel system uses its 512 processor system
