A serum factor of the classical complement pathway stabilizing C3 convertase (C4b2a), known as C4 nephritis, can be detected in sera of patients with glomerulonephritis and Sjögren’s syndrome after some SLE, acute infection Factor (C4NeF), which is an IgG class antibody. To investigate the ability of B lymphocytes to produce C4NeF in SLE patients, we isolated mononuclear cells from peripheral blood of 15 SLE patients and 10 normal healthy individuals and infected them with Epstein-Barr virus in vitro to establish an active B lymphocyte line . The capacity of these established cell line supernatants to transform the canonical and alternative pathway C3 convertases was determined using the EAC3bBb and EAC14b2a stability assays.
