Large sky area multi-target optical fiber spectral telescope (LAMOST, also known as Guo Shou-jing telescope) is a new type of quasi-star ritual reflection Schmidt telescope. With an effective aperture of 4 m and a field of view of 20 square degrees, it is equipped with 16 spectrographs and 4,000 optical fibers to simultaneously acquire spectra of up to 4,000 celestial bodies. Spectral coverage is 370-910 nm with a resolution of 1800. The 5-year LAMOST galactic massive satellite survey program was launched in the fall of 2012 and plans to capture more than 7 million stellar spectra, with over 3 million spectra as of June 2014. The paper briefly reviews the importance and current status of the research on the Milky Way. It also introduces the scientific significance and goals of the LAMOST Milky Way spectroscopy survey, the progress of data collection, processing and analysis, and the preliminary research results obtained. The future of the LAMOST Milky Way Spectroscopy Survey Looking forward.
