Reported 40Gb / s retiming, reshaping, resend (3R) optical regenerator. It uses an electro-absorption (EA) modulator-based wavelength converter to perform 40Gb / s or higher bit rate wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) over optical networks. The optical 3R regenerator is simple in construction and consists of two wavelength converters, a clock reduction unit and an optical clock generator. The experiment demonstrated the stability of the 3R optical regenerator and its insensitivity to polarization, and the adjustment of its optimum operating conditions is also very simple. To explore the optical 3R regenerator availability in the optical network, it was inserted between two 500km long transmission lines for evaluation. Compared with the case where the regenerator is not inserted, the Q value is improved by about 1.5 dB after transmitting 1000 km. In the more high-speed, upgradeable all-optical network such 3R regenerators great value.
