This paper discusses the characteristics and causes of the anomalous thermal evolution of organic matter in the Middle Jurassic in the Muli Basin, and studies its evolution history by basin modeling. The study shows that not only the anti-Hilbert law exists between the first coal section and the second coal section, but also the organic maturity of the source rocks of the second coal seam and its overlying strata is also higher than that of the underlying coal Layer source rocks. This thermal evolution of organic matter is caused by thermal alteration. Studies of thermal evolution history show that the Middle Jurassic in the Muli Basin entered the threshold of oil generation in the Late Jurassic and started to generate oil. At the end of the Cretaceous, due to the upwelling of underground hot water, the organic maturity of coal two and its overlying strata rapidly increased within a short period of 5Ma and reached the high maturity stage, forming an anti-Hild law organic-matter thermal evolution abnormal.
