From the middle and late Tang Dynasty to the Five Dynasties, the phenomenon of the separation of the military governors and the local authorities is a unique landscape in Chinese history. The research on this issue can be described as long-lasting, but in the past researchers mostly focused on the relations between the military governors and the central government. Geographical features are less mentioned. This journal holds that the study of the separation of the military and the local government must be based on the geo-environment in which the military and the military themselves are situated so that the essence of the historical phenomenon can be grasped as a whole. Therefore, this magazine invited a group of domestic scholars to discuss this issue in an attempt to reveal the origin of this historical phenomenon.
