日本味之素公司最近培育出葱头与大蒜杂交的新作物品种。这种新作物体从外表看起来像长蒜头,但是里面却像葱头那样是涡旋状,具有葱蒜两种味道。味之素公司计划最近申请专利,将其培育成新的食用植物。葱蒜虽然同属大葱科植物,但是葱头中没有大蒜粘性,而且由于「远亲」,无法靠自然授粉生出胚芽,因此一直被认为难以实现杂交。该公司首先培养胚珠和胚,在无菌状态中选出授粉的胚珠进行试管培养,让胚珠生出胚。然后把这种杂交种胚移植到胚培养基中继续培养,使其成长为植物体。
Japan’s Ajinomoto Inc. recently breeds new varieties of onions and garlic hybrids. The new crop looks like a long garlic from the outside, but inside is like a whirlpool, with both onion and garlic flavors. Ajinomoto plans to apply for a patent recently, to cultivate it into a new edible plant. Although onion and garlic belong to the same family of plants of onion, there is no garlic stickiness onions, and because of “distant relatives”, embryos can not be formed by natural pollination, it has been considered difficult to achieve hybridization. The company first cultivated ovules and embryos, pollinated ovules were selected in aseptic conditions for in vitro culture, and the ovules gave birth to embryos. The hybrid embryos are then transplanted into the embryo culture medium for further cultivation to grow into plants.
