国家统计局发布的报告显示，到2005年9月末，全国商品房空置面积达1.09亿平方米，同比增长10.8％。其中，商品住宅空置面积6006万平方米，增长4.2％。北京市统计局公布的数字显示，至9月末，北京商品房空置数大幅上升，其空置面积高达1054万平方米，比去年同期增长21.1％，其中一年以上的空置房较去年同期增长高达25.3％。这种房屋空置面积增加的现象，十分值得关注。
