根据陆架地质、地貌的调查资料和实验室的各项分析结果,并依据形成地貌的时代和成因,可将东海陆架地貌分为现代沉积地貌和残留地貌,包括三角洲、滨岸地貌、河流地貌、海成阶地和砂波地貌。东海陆架地貌是在晚更新世海退过程中形成的,在海进过程中陆架地貌受到一些改造。全新世海进过程中,在沿岸发育了经受现代区域性水动力条件作用的现代沉积地貌。在陆架浅海底部发育了现代动力作用过程的砂波地貌。
