The characteristics of ants in the horizontal belt of the east slope of the Gaoligong Mountains were studied. The results showed that there were endemic species in each position of the east slope, except for the contour of 2,500 m in the mid-south section. On the contours of 100 m, 150 m, 200 m, and 2500 m, the number of species from North to Nantes increased successively, but the northern sections of 15 0 0 m and 20 000 m Contour lines appear exceptionally high species. Most of the species showed the dominant species in only one plot at different elevations of the east slope, while the dominant species in the northern and southern segments usually differed. The dominant species in the northern segment of the 10 000 m and 200 m contour lines are more than the southern segment, whereas the dominant species in the southern segment of the 1500 m contour line are more than the northern segment and 2.500 m in height The dominant species in different locations tend to be equal. The number and density of species on the eastern slope show a general pattern. From north to south, the number and density of species on the contours of 100 m and 2500 m increased successively, and the number and density of species decreased gradually in the contour of 1500 m. The dominance, diversity and evenness in the contour of 100 m have obvious regularity. From north to south, the dominance decreases in turn, while the diversity and evenness increase in sequence, but there is an exception in the northern segment. On the contours of 150 m, 200 m and 2500 m, the dominance, diversity and evenness of the ants communities are not regular, which may be related to the secondary and fragmentation of vegetation. Although the vegetation types on the east slope are similar with the same altitude, the differences between ants communities are significant with the similarity coefficient between 0 and 0.05. The similarity between the ant communities on the contour of 10 000 m in the lower part of the mountain is relatively large, and the similarity coefficient is 0
