Previous studies of global and local perceptions generally required subjects to react directly to target targets that appeared at the global or local level of the compound stimulus, so compound stimuli were mission-related and noticed. The study investigates the differences in global and local processing under unobtrusive conditions by measuring the initiation effects of the collective and local properties of the compound letters on subsequent detection stimuli. Experiment 1 found that the global and local properties of the composite stimuli had a negative priming effect on the detection stimuli, but there was no significant difference between the two. Experiment 2 shortened the time interval between the starting stimulus and the detecting stimulus. The global and local properties of the compound stimulus no longer have a priming effect on the detecting stimulus. In the first and second experiments, when the subjects were asked to react directly to the compound stimuli, the error rate of distinguishing local properties was higher than the error rate of distinguishing the overall properties. Based on these results, we discuss the differences between holistic and local properties in terms of attention and non-attention.
