在英国诗歌史上,介于华兹华斯和丁尼生之间的以幽默诗人身份而著称的托马斯·胡德(Thomas Hood,1799~1845)不仅创作了颇有济慈风味的《我记得,我记得》、《玫瑰花开的季节》、《秋颂》等浪漫主义诗篇,还在人生暮年创作了针砭时弊让欧美读者饱含眼泪的人文主义诗篇《衬衫之歌》、《劳工者之歌》、《叹息桥》等。通过他犀利的诗行,他和狄更斯、萨克雷、盖斯凯尔夫人一道喊出了英国社会的良心。胡德的诗触及了诗歌的不同领域和流派,其诗歌风格的多样性使得他成为他那个时代最富才华和最具影响力的诗人。狄更斯认为他“是一个强有力的人—即一个诗人所拥有的惊人的力量和天赋”[1]10。萨克雷称之为“一个真正的天才和诗人”[2]44。
In the history of English poetry, Thomas Hood (1799 ~ 1845), known as a humorous poet between Wordsworth and Tennyson, not only created a Keats-style “I remember, I remember, ”“ rose season ”,“ Autumn Song ”and other romantic poems, but also in life twinkling of an eye created when the shortcomings of Europe and the United States readers tearful humanistic poetry“ Song of Shirts, ”“ Song of labors ” , “Bridge of Sighs” and so on. Through his sharp poetic lines, he and Dickens, Sacray, and Gaiskell called out the conscience of British society. Hood’s poems touches on different fields and schools of poetry. The diversity of his poetic style makes him the most talented and influential poet of his time. Dickens sees him as “a powerful man - astonishing power and talent owned by a poet” [1] 10. Sacre called it “a real genius and poet” [2] 44.
