Ketanserin is a serotonin S 2 receptor selective antagonist. In our randomized, double-blind, crossover, and placebo-controlled trial, the hemodynamic effects of two drugs on heart and forearm were compared after oral ketamine and metoprolol in 20 hypertensive patients. The subjects were orally given ketamine (20 mg in the first week, 40 mg thereafter) or metoprolol (100 mg) twice daily for 5 weeks. As a result, both drugs reduced diastolic and systolic blood pressure by about 10%, but their effects on forearm hemodynamics differed significantly from each other.
