In this paper, the easy-cutting structural steel with calcium and sulfur system as the main research object, with the help of quantitative image analyzer, electron probe, scanning electron microscope and other equipment and equipment to explore the steel non-metallic inclusions and the cutting performance of steel. The influence of the size of non-metallic inclusions on the tool life is studied. The results show that the critical dimension of inclusions to the tool life under this test condition is 8μm. The effects of spacing, uniformity and quantity of non-metallic inclusions on tool life were also studied. Finally, a mathematical model describing the relationship between the characteristic parameters of non-metallic inclusions and the tool life is established. Tests show that tool life (T) is mainly affected by the number of non-metallic inclusions (Ne) and distribution uniformity (H) in the steel.
