多数中国新生代艺术家(特指20世纪60年代出生的,如刘小东和方力钧),在去除艺术中的政治性这一点上是一致的。去除艺术中的政治性的行动并不是从新生代艺术家开始的,而是从80年代的吴冠中先生开始的,最后在新生代的艺术家们的实践中真正完成的。吴冠中是用形式主义绘画语言和唯美理念来去除政治性,而刘小东和方力钧则是用新现实主义语言和解构主义精神来去除政治性的。不过,刘小东和方力钧都不去除历史性,只不过是用个人青春史和成长史来取代国家和民族的宏观政治史。他
Most Chinese new generation artists (especially those born in the 1960s such as Liu Xiaodong and Fang Lijun) are consistent in removing the political nature of art. The removal of the political action in the art did not begin with the artists of the new generation, but started with Mr. Wu Guanzhong in the 1980s and was finally completed by the artists of the new generation. Wu Guanzhong used formalistic language of painting and aesthetic ideas to remove politics, while Liu Xiaodong and Fang Lijun used political norms of neorealism and deconstruction.
