最早出現於宋代史料中的“塌坊(房)”一物其得名之由向來未得確詁.作爲儲物之貨韽,“塌坊(房)”之“塌”何得以表“存放、貯藏”義?當時文獻中又多“停塌”“收塌”“塌藏”“頓塌”“囤塌”諸語,字亦可作“搨”“榻”,其義爲何?本文從社會經濟史和語言學相結合的角度出發對上述問題作了初步的探究,基本觀點是:“塌坊(房)”之“塌”表示“存放、貯藏”義來源於其“著、置”義,而這個意義又基於從“日羽”得聲之字所共同蘊含的“靠近、接觸、附着”的語義特徵.“塌坊”“停塌”諸相關語詞又有異文作“榻”“榻”,説明語言中表示“存放、貯藏”義的詞反映在文字上不必定於一尊,音義之間自有相當密切的關係.
