A standard grid is projected onto the surface of the object under test using an optical projection system to form a deformation grid that carries the three-dimensional information of the surface under test. The deformed grating is imaged on the surface of another standard grating by the imaging lens, and the images of the measured object with the moiré stripes are obtained after the two grids are overlapped.
