Currently, there are 3 kinds of biomaterials used for treatment of spinal cord injury: Guidance Channels and Scafolds, Hydrogels, Nanoparticles. Each material is made of different chemical materials and has different uses and biocompatibility. Biomaterials are used not only to assist in the transportation and regulation of drug release, but also to provide physical support for the regeneration of injured tissues. Although biological materials have broad prospects in the treatment of spinal cord injury, there is no consistent conclusion to prove which material is the best choice for the repair of spinal cord injury. A series of problems need to be further studied, which include how long treatment measures should persist based on different materials, how long the in vivo half-life is and how is the biological activity of materials when placed in injury of spinal cord in order to obtain the best therapeutic effects and so on.
