学界称王先生教育家、作家、评论家、翻译家、比较文学家、诗人。他不在乎这些“家”的头衔,称他诗人,他是最喜欢的。他一生中著述等身,写的诗却并不多,但是诗的确写得好。与其他诗人不同的是,他同时用中英文写诗,不止写诗,还评诗、译诗、编诗集、写诗史。读《王佐良全集》,可看到他毕生用心于诗。纵览他的全部著作,有七部与诗有关。他从中学时代就开始在《中学生》等著名刊物上发表文章和诗作。上大学时继续写诗, Academic circles called Mr. Wang educators, writers, critics, translators, comparative writers, poets.
