Objective To study the effect of implant and connected implant on craniofacial development in dogs. Methods Eight Beagle dogs were selected from December 2011 to January 2013, and randomly divided into four groups (A group, non-connection group) and B group (connection group). Each dog was implanted with two implants In group A, there was no connection between implants, and in group B, implants were implanted one month after implantation. Six months after the experimental dogs were sacrificed, the anatomical landmarks were measured and compared between groups. Results The distance between two implants in Group A increased significantly with the growth of craniofacial bone. The distance between two implants in Group B did not increase with the growth of craniofacial bone. There was no significant difference in the growth and development of the cheekbones, eyes and craniofacial bones between the two groups. Conclusion The implants implanted with implants do not significantly inhibit the growth of craniofacial bone. The impact of these implants is rather limited. Therefore, this technique can be applied clinically to patients with juvenile diseases.
