The Augsburg local railway in Germany recently signed a contract with ADtranz for the replacement of two old hydraulic drive diesel locomotives with new diesel engines. The two old locomotives used to be heavy shunting and small operations. This modernization is seen as a cost-effective and effective alternative to new locomotives. This is expected to result in longer service intervals, lower operating costs and longer locomotive life 15
