哥特传统广泛地存在于英美文学中。该文首先探讨了英美文学中哥特小说的起源,进而分析其在美国文学中发展壮大的原因,而后梳理出美国文学中哥特式小说的代表作家及其代表作,最后指出,哥特小说致力于揭露人类如何去面对善恶以及深刻的道德探索。
