Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) belong to a class of nuclear receptor superfamily. There are three subtypes: PPARα, PPARβ / δ and PPARγ. PPARα plays an important regulatory role in the gene expression of fatty acid oxidation (FAO) enzymes, which can promote the uptake, activation and metabolism of fatty acids in cells.
