Discusses the possibility of applying intelligent control on a hand-held arc welding torch. An important factor in determining the weld quality in manual arc welding is the random fluctuation of the arc length. The addition of an additional adjustment movement to the welding tongs in principle eliminates or reduces this fluctuation. This paper mainly discusses the principle of the system and the preliminary design of the mechanical and electrical circuits.
