由于仪器设计越来越复杂和数字化,以及测试的复杂性,例如通讯卫星等,人工测试就越困难。为此,HP公司建立了有计算机工作的自动化校准系统。该HP9550校准系统由标准设备、特殊硬件及软件组成。它是一模拟系统,为很多仪器提供常用的校准程序。计算机的代码是ATSBASIE,常用代码是BASIE,不损害被校仪器的精度和完整性,由少数人员便能完成仪器的校准、测试和修理。它能校准电表、数字电压表、示波器和发生器等。比人工校准快3~5倍,例如,HP412A繁用表的性能测试只用6分钟,400E电压表只用4分钟,HP200CD发生器只用5分钟,不仅能节省时间和成本,也能节省人力。
