The non-cognitive metaphorical view represented by Davidson and Lepper and Stone considers metaphor as having only one literal meaning and no metaphorical meaning (or cognitive content). The metaphorical function does not mean meaning, but attracts people to a certain similarity by stimulating metaphorical thinking. This article will refute Davidson and Lepper and Stone’s metaphorical implications, metaphorical thinking and dead metaphor of the relevant assertion, and then point out that their metaphorical view is not flawless. Metaphor not only has the metaphorical meaning, but also the cognitive effect expected by the metaphor users is precisely mediated by the metaphorical meaning.
