鸡冠花为苋科青葙属植物,药用花序和种子。花序称鸡冠花,味甘性凉,能凉血、止血。种子亦作青葙子用,性微寒味苦,有清肝明目作用。【植物形态】一年生草本,茎直立、粗壮,高2～3尺,绿色或紫红色,有纵条纹,上端扁平,叶互生,有柄,叶片长卵形或卵状披针形,全缘。穗状花序,象鸡冠,生于茎的顶端,花色鲜艳,分紫红色、白色或黄色三种,种子黑色、细小有光泽,肾形。
