Although it is not the usual practice to ligulate the tongue outside the mouth, it is sometimes necessary to do so to prevent uncontrollable bleeding in the mouth caused by various causes. It can be ligated through one of the two large anatomic triangles in the anterior neck of the carotid artery or submandibular triangle. There are several small secondary triangles in the above two regions that have a special relationship with the ligation of the lingual arteries, most commonly the Béclard’s triangle, the Lesser’s triangle, and the Pirogoff’s triangle.
