硝酸苯汞最早由Otto氏以氯化苯和等分子量的硝酸银加于沸腾乙醇中制成,而目前生产上所采用的方法则是用苯与乙酸高汞反应,生成乙酸苯汞,再与硝酸铵或硝酸钠经复分解反应制得。粗制硝酸苯汞在用含水乙醇精制过程中水解为鹼式硝酸苯汞(C_6H_5·Hg·NO_3·C_6H_5·Hg·OH),此即药用硝酸苯汞的实际组成。文献有以硝酸高汞与苯直接反应制取硝酸苯汞的记载。苯与硝酸高汞作用生成硝酸苯汞是一个很快的反应,并且是可逆的,为除去生成的硝酸,可在反应液中加入氧化
Phenylmercuric nitrate was first produced from Otto by adding chlorinated benzene and an equivalent amount of silver nitrate to boiling ethanol. At present, the method used in production is to react benzene with high-mercury acetate to form phenylmercuric acetate. Ammonium nitrate or sodium nitrate is obtained by metathesis reaction.
