叶尔兴队以敢想敢干的精神，破除了迷信思想，在手掘浅井1.2×1.5公尺断面，节理较发育的5—7级白云质灰岩中用了扩底爆破法。其结果减少了炮眼数目与总长度，提高了爆破效率，并减少了装药量，使小班进尺相继达到4.00公尺，5.15公尺，5.45公尺。叶尔兴队浅井普遍推行了此法以后，由原来平均队班效率0.73公尺提高到1.32公尺。试用扩底爆破法的条件与过程：
