随着2012年12月26日京广高铁正式全线开通运营,从广州到北京仅需8h左右,对比上一次提速的京广铁路22h的时长来说,缩短了不少时间。京广高铁的开通是国家“四纵四横”铁路快速客运通道工程中的一项,在武广高铁的基础上,连接北京至武汉段,贯穿中国南北的经济命脉,至2015年,还将延伸至香港。“四纵四横”的高铁网,已实现了京沪、哈大、京广高铁的贯通,其他几条也将在2020年前全部实现通车。全线贯通的京广高铁凭借运能大、安全正点、舒适度高、节省能源资源、保护生态环境、摆脱交通堵塞等优势,将促使“美丽中国”建设进程提速。
