毛泽东思想和邓小平理论具有共同的理论特色，都是马克思主义的世界观和方法论，都是马克思主义的社会革命论，都是马克思主义与中国实际相结合的产物，具有共同的中国先进政治文化特征。邓小平理论在中国社会主义发展阶段、社会主义矛盾和工作重点、社会主义建设基本目标和方针、社会主义经济体制改革和对外开放、社会主义民主政治建设等一系列问题上继承和发展了毛泽东思想，它们是一脉相承的科学体系。
Both Mao Zedong Thought and Deng Xiaoping Theory share common theoretical features. They are all Marxist worldviews and methodologies, and are all Marxist theories of social revolution. All of them are the product of combining Marxism with the reality of China and have common features of advanced Chinese political culture. Deng Xiaoping Theory inherited and developed Mao Zedong Thought on a series of issues such as the stage of development of socialism in China, the contradictions and priorities of socialism, the basic goals and guidelines for socialist construction, the socialist economic system reform and opening up to the outside world, and the building of a socialist democratic politics. They are the same scientific system.
