British Victorian era (1837-1901) is a woman writing boom, gave birth to many outstanding women writers. For a long time, the research on female writers of this era has been limited to a handful of classic writers such as George Eliot and Charlotte Bronte. The contemporary female writer Elizabeth Gaskell enjoyed a high literary reputation during the Victorian era, but her important position in the history of English literature was not established until recently. After more than a century and a half of ups and downs, Gaskell ranks among British literary figures with strong social critics, imprinting it in the hearts of both as an image of social and family responsibilities. The Gaskell study is very enlightening for the contemporary society and contemporary women who face many ethical confusion.
