随着气象卫星的发展,卫星云图传真技术已广泛地应用于国内外气象科学领域中.卫星云图的发送是用无线电照相传真的方法,将卫星中的可见光扫描辐射仪和红外辐射仪向地面发送卫星云图照片,通过传真技术,最后由传真收片机显示成图片.气象卫星通常分为两种类型:一种是极轨卫星,如美国的诺阿系列(NOAA)的气象卫星.这种卫星的运行轨道离地球较近,约800~1400公里,并且始终绕地球两极运行;另一种是和地球运转周期相同、静止在地球约36000公里高空的同步卫星,如日本的GMS同步卫星.
