The bankruptcy of the Philadelphia Orchestra was only the forerunner of dominoes in the reform and reorganization of the American music industry. Bankruptcy has become more akin to what management has done to cover up its mismanagement and shift the main conflict to the instrumentalist. The U.S. economy may have started to recover, but the effects of the financial crisis have begun to take shape. On April 16, the Philadelphia Orchestra’s board of directors, which has been in poor financial shape, passed a resolution deciding to seek bankruptcy protection. This is also the first documented case of the first bankruptcy orchestra in the history of the United States. The so-called first-line orchestra, the United States is the traditional sense of the five major orchestra.
