I. Overview The Tarim River is the longest inland river in China with a total length of 1224 kilometers from the confluence of the Aksu River, the Yarkant River and the Hetian River to Taitama Lake. The alluvial plain in the Tahe River basin is vast with Alar in the west and Taitama Lake in East Asia, with the northern slope to the front of the Tianshan Mountains in the south and the Taklamakan Desert to the south. Since the liberation, the mainstream of the Tahe River has been rerouted twice and the river has been shortened by more than 300 kilometers. The inflow of water has been frequent and the water resources have been seriously lost. The over 2 billion cubic meters of water in the middle reaches have not been well utilized. The new trend of Tahe River led to the decline of vegetation on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, the expansion of the desert and the change of environment
