刘开渠先生于1904年10月1日出生于安徽萧县。1953年担任人民英雄纪念碑设计处处长兼美术工作组组长,亲自创作了《胜利渡长江》、《支援前线》、《欢迎解放军》三块浮雕。1959年调任中央美术学院副院长,1963年赴任中国美术馆馆长,1993年6月25日逝世。作为中国现代雕塑的奠基人,刘开渠在七十年的雕塑生涯中将西方的雕塑观念与中国的民族精神融为一体,形成质朴、洗练、沉稳的风格。他的代表作《淞沪抗日阵亡将士纪念碑》、人民英雄纪念碑大型浮雕《胜利渡江解放全中国》等群像雕塑,讴歌了中国人民的革命业绩和英雄气概,塑造革命领袖的《毛主席半身像》、《周恩来总理像》等饱含深情,成为我国现代雕塑史上的标志性作品;作为中国美术馆任职30年的馆长,作为我国美术馆事业的奠基者和创业者,刘开渠对美术馆的建设倾注了极大的心力,为把中国美术馆建成具有中国特色的高层
Mr. Liu Kaiqu was born on October 1, 1904 in Xiaoxian County, Anhui Province. In 1953, he served as director of the Monument to the People’s Heroes’ Design and leader of the art work team, personally creating three reliefs: “Victory to the Yangtze River”, “Support Frontline” and “Welcome to People’s Liberation Army”. In 1959 he was transferred to the vice president of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. In 1963, he took the post of director of the China Art Museum and died on June 25, 1993. As the founder of modern Chinese sculpture, Liu Kaiqu made the concept of sculpture in the West and China’s national spirit into a whole in his 70 years of sculptural career, forming a simple, clean and steady style. His masterpieces such as the Monument to the Anti-Japanese War Memorial in Songhu, the large relief sculpture of the Monument to the People’s Heroes, the liberation of China from the victory of the People’s Liberty, and other group sculptures have eulogized the revolutionary achievements and heroic demeanor of the Chinese people and created a “bust of Chairman Mao” , “Premier Zhou Enlai,” and so full of affectionate, become China’s modern sculpture history landmark works; served as curator of China Art Museum for 30 years, as the founder and founder of China’s art museum career, Liu Kaiqu on the construction of art museum Great efforts have been made to build the National Art Museum of China into a high-level building with Chinese characteristics
