計算机用来解决非数值的化学問題 物理学家和物理化学家常常用大型计算机作为运算工具,即作为巨大的计算器。如果设想计算机只作为一个大运算机器用来解方程式,那么计算机对于合成有机化学家来说就会一无所用,因为在合成化学中只用到少量的数学运算。而实际上计算机除了运算以外还有更大的能力,它们还能通过进行一个系统过程来处理数据。计算机一般不仅能处理数字而且能处理信息,这是因为信息可由符号表达,而在计算机內符号可由适当的数字表示的缘故。计算机能对符号串进行比较
Computer Used to Solve Non-Numeric Chemical Problems Physicists and physicists often use large computers as computational tools, that is, as huge calculators. If one envisaged that the computer be used as a large computing machine to solve equations, computers would be useless to synthetic organic chemists because only a small number of mathematical operations were used in synthetic chemistry. In fact, computers have more power than computing, and they can process data by performing a systematic process. Computers generally handle not only numbers but also information because the information can be expressed by symbols and the symbols in computers can be represented by appropriate numbers. The computer can compare symbol strings
