彭镇华教授是我国林业生态工程理论与实践的开拓者和探索者,自1964年留学前苏联列宁格勒林业技术大学,获副博士学位回国后,长期从事林业生态工程理论和实践研究,主持过多项国家重大项目并解决了一系列关键技术,多项成果已应用于国家林业生态工程建设,并作为国家重点项目进行推广示范,产生了一定的生态、经济和社会效益。彭镇华教授创造性地把林业生态工程技术应用于血防领域,提出了兴林灭螺理论。20世纪80年代中期,他运用生物学和森林生态学原理研究血吸虫中间宿主钉螺对环境的依存关系,通过营造抑螺防病林,改变钉螺孳生环境,切断人畜与疫水接触感染
