Will you fight tomorrow? On February 21, 1998, my husband and I set off for Israel. Just the day before, UN Secretary General Annan flew to the Iraqi capital Baghdad to begin a three-day diplomatic good offices with a view to peacefully resolving the Iraqi weapons inspection crisis. We left home at 8 o’clock at night to the airport. Before we left, I received a long distance call from my mother. They just watched the news network, Annan’s trip to Baghdad without any news. The mother on the other side of the phone worried about my safety for fear that the crisis would involve Israel in the war. I can only do my best to comfort the mother: rest assured, will not fight. But in fact, at this moment, there are two big questions that can not be undone in my own mind: Annan’s diplomatic mediation will not go back to work, and the war on Americans will not be initiated immediately
