Since the end of the 20th century, influenced by the neo-historicism, American literary critics began to re-evaluate naturalistic literature. As a direct result of this literary criticism practice, it broke through the old narrow stylistic criticism and regarded American naturalistic literature as a dynamic process of development in which writers of different ages question and solve different time propositions. This paper intends to macroscopically examine the intrinsic aesthetics of American naturalist literature from the contemporary perspective, that is, its openness in time, the multi-dimensional in space and the extensibility embodied in the subject, so as to explore the present significance of American naturalistic literature.
