In English and Chinese literary works, the characters are full of profound ideological connotations, while the naming of characters is the concentrated embodiment of the author’s creative thinking. In order to better reveal the essence, destiny, character and the theme of the works, the author will name his depicted characters according to their intention of creation. They imply profound ideological and cultural connotations and aesthetic values. This essay explores their moral meaning in English and Chinese literary works from four aspects: homonym of human beings suggestive of human nature, predicting the fate of characters, revealing the character and the development of occult events.
