美国女作家赛珍珠(1892-1973)长期生活在中国,其著作半数以上文字与中国有关,并以作品《大地》(The Good Earth)中对中国农村生活的生动描述而获诺贝尔文学奖。得知一名中国人因从事平民教育而获“现代世界最具革命性贡献十大伟人”之一的称号,她迫不及待地对其进行采访,便有了这篇谈话录。访谈录主要谈及中国平民教育运动的起源与发展历程,因篇幅有限,仅作节选。该谈话录在《晏阳初全集》中未有收录,访谈时间为1944年6月11日至12日,地点位于美国宾西法尼亚都柏林。
American woman writer Pearl S. Buck (1892-1973) has lived in China for a long time, and more than half of her writings are related to China. She won the Nobel Prize in literature with a vivid description of Chinese rural life in The Good Earth. When she learns that a Chinese was awarded “One of the Ten Greatest Revolutionary Contributions in the Modern World” for engaging in civilian education, she was obliged to interview him for the interview. The interviews mainly talked about the origins and development course of the Chinese civilian education movement. Because of limited space, this interview only serves as an excerpt. The discourse recorded in “The Complete Works of Yan Yangchu” is not included, the interview time is June 11, 1944 to 12, the location is located in Dublin, Pennsylvania, the United States.
